VS Code extension
Settings and troubleshooting
Settings, commands, and the fixes for the problems people run into.
The extension works without any setup beyond signing in. This page lists the few settings it has, the commands you can run, and what to do when something does not work.
Settings
Open them with Ctrl+, (Cmd+, on a Mac) and search for SiliCode.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| silicode.outputFolder | The workspace folder where generated modules and testbenches are saved, one sub-folder per chat. Default: silicode. |
| silicode.apiBaseUrl | The SiliCode service the extension talks to. Default: https://silicode.ai. Leave it as it is unless we ask you to change it. |
| silicode.webBaseUrl | The website that sign-up, billing and support links open. Default: https://silicode.ai. |
Note
Changing the service address signs you out, since your session belongs to the server you signed in to.
Commands
Open the Command Palette with Ctrl+Shift+P (Cmd+Shift+P on a Mac) and type SiliCode.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| SiliCode: Open Panel | Opens the panel. |
| SiliCode: New Chat | Starts a new chat. |
| SiliCode: Stop Generation | Stops the run in progress. Shown only while one is running. |
| SiliCode: Add Selection to Chat | Adds the selected code as context. Also in the editor's right-click menu. |
| SiliCode: Sign Out | Signs you out of the extension. |
To give any of them a keyboard shortcut, open Keyboard Shortcuts and search for SiliCode.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Can't reach SiliCode | Check your connection and any proxy or VPN. If you changed silicode.apiBaseUrl, set it back to https://silicode.ai. |
| Your session has expired | Sign in again. Sessions last a long time, but not forever. |
| You're out of credit | Use the link in the notice to add credit on the website, then send again. See Credit and top-ups. |
| Debug or Optimize is locked | The feature is not open to your account yet. It unlocks in the extension as soon as it does on the website. |
| Open a folder in VS Code first | Existing project needs a folder. Open one, or pick another folder or a .zip from the project card. |
| The project is too large | Leave out generated files and large data, or zip only the part you need. See Limits and retention. |
| Lost connection while following a run | The run carries on without you. Press Keep following on the turn when you are back online, or reopen the chat from your history later. |
| A run is in progress in this chat | Wait for it to finish, or stop it, before sending another message in the same chat. |
| The project changed since this was proposed | Your files moved on after the proposal was made. Ask again for a fresh one. |
| Generated files open as read-only | No folder is open in VS Code. Open one and ask again to have them saved. |
Every error message in the panel says what went wrong, and most come with a link to the page on the website that fixes it. If yours is not covered here, see Troubleshooting or contact support, and mention that you were using the VS Code extension.
Your code and your account
- Your sign-in is kept in VS Code's secure storage, never in plain settings files.
- Code is sent only when you send a message: the selection you added, or the project you chose for that chat.
- Nothing is written to your project without a click on Apply. New modules go into their own chat folder.
- What we store and why is the same as on the website; see Privacy and analytics.
